Dear Family,

I hope you all had a wonderful Spring break and enjoyed the week with your families!  The break was much needed as we head into the very busy last quarter of the school year.  The April and May calendars are packed with events!  

This Thursday, April 13^th, is Open House for 7^th-12^th grade.  Classrooms will be open from 6:30-8:00 pm.  Please come with your students to tour their classrooms and see what they’ve been working on.  The Art Show will be open in the lobby of the Auditorium, so please stop by to enjoy the artwork of our very talented students. 

Also, the College and Career Center is having an Open House from 5:30-6:30 that evening.  All are invited to compete in the Cupcake Challenge, details are below.

The Spring Home Tour is coming up soon on April 28^th!  We need volunteers to be tour docents at each of the homes. It’s a fun and easy way to help support the 7/8 PTA and 9-12 PTSA.  Sign up to volunteer and buy tickets and sponsorships at https://lchs78.membershiptoolkit.com/hometour.

Has someone in the La Cañada Unified School District made a real impact on you or your children this year or last? We’d like to hear about your experience!

The La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation’s Endowment Fund is seeking nominations of outstanding LCUSD educators for the 2022-23 Rose Harrington Educator of the Year Award.

This year’s nominations are due by Friday, March 31st with winners to be selected by an Endowment Trustee-appointed committee. Anyone is eligible to submit a nomination – fellow teachers, parents, administrators, and students (if they can independently complete the nomination form). You can find more information and submit an online nomination form by clicking here. Paper nomination forms will also be available at upcoming PTA meetings, which you can submit via email, fax or mail.

The Rose Harrington Educator of the Year Award, which comes with a cash prize (last year it was over $7,000!), was established in 2002 by a bequest made in the estate of local resident Rose Harrington, who herself was an educator.

College & Career Center C³ Open House - Thursday, April 13 @ 5:30 pm

Stop by to learn about the many resources and events available for your students’ college and career journey and meet the C³  team. We will also host a Cupcake Competition that evening, so get ready to bake or taste! Click here to compete!

Internationally-Renown Spanish Painter Javier Montesol to Paint Mural at La Cañada High School and Premier “Miradas – Crossing Glances” Exhibit at Descanso Gardens.

 Montesol is best known for his iconic paintings of Spanish dancers and depictions of Spanish culture. His work is included in numerous international collections, including Madrid’s Prado Museum, Museo Reina Sofia, and in private collections around the world. In Fall 2022, La Cañada Flintridge Sister Cities hosted Montesol and introduced him to the people and culture of Southern California. He returns to Southern California in April and May 2023 to complete two important projects.

Collaborating with 14 La Cañada High School art students, on Thursday, April 27, 2023, Montesol will paint a live large mural in the courtyard of La Cañada High School. This “performance art” will be similar to an event commissioned by the National Museum of Catalonia in Barcelona in 2019.
