SUBJECT: LCHS 9-12 PTSA - News and Information You Need!

President's Message

Dear Family,

It’s hard to believe, but the 2022-2023 school year is coming to an end. Looking back on the year, it’s been exciting and full of learning experiences, friendships, great sports seasons, and fun school-wide events including our annual traditions like Tailgate and the All-School Musical and new events like the Multicultural Night on May 12th . The student-led event was a huge success with booths featuring a wide variety of cultures displayed in creative ways, delicious food tastings, games, and entertainment that included traditional dancers and the Chamber Singers. I’m already looking forward to next year’s event!

Senior final exams begin on Wednesday, 5/24 and Grades 9-11 will begin next Wednesday, 5/31. You can find the Finals schedule here.

I hope the last two weeks of school go well for everyone, that students feel successful as they finish their classes and take final exams, and that everyone enjoys the end of the year festivities.

The end of the school year is always bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our friends for thesummer break or as we graduate and move on to new adventures. I wish our Seniors a heartfelt Congratulations!

Enjoy your summer break! I look forward to seeing everyone when school starts on August 15th!

With warm regards,

Christine Chant, LCHS PTSA President

Athletic Clearance Info

Athletic clearance for the 2023-24 athletic seasons are now open. The best, most complete details for how to complete this can be found on the athletics website and the Tryout Calendar which can be found here.

Key Points

  • Any athlete who is not cleared cannot participate in summer practices, tryouts or games.

  • Even if you are cleared currently, you need to do this again before the summer practices/tryouts start. (Clearance starts over every school year)

  • Your physical may still be valid to use but you will need to do the online process again AND upload your still valid physical. (Physicals are valid for 12 months)

Tryout Calendar

Here is the try out calendar for 23-24 teams. Please continue to refer to this calendar and/or reach out to the head coaches on the document. This is for tryouts only and not the full list of summer practices. As mentioned earlier, anyone trying out, MUST be athletically cleared.

Transportation Donations

At the end of the online athletic clearance process will be a donation for paying transportation fees. For 23-24, we are requesting $285 for each athlete to pay for the buses that transport to and from competitions. If you would rather pay via check, please make it out to LCHS Athletics and in the memo put your sport and your student ID#.

FAQs

Q1: I was cleared recently, do I need it again for the summer?

A1: Yes. Clearance resets every school year

Q2: I only get one free physical a year. Do I need to get another physical for this clearance?

A2: Not necessarily. You can upload the same physical you used for your 22-23 clearance as long as it is still within 12 months of the date of the exam.

Q3: What happens if I miss the try-out because I am out of town?

A4: Sports will be holding makeup tryouts in the fall but keep in mind that their roster will already be, for the most part, set.

Q4: If I don’t make a team, can I still try out for another?

A4: Yes! The LCHS athletic department encourages multiple sport athletes!

For all other questions, we encourage you to reach out to the head coach first and then the athletics department.

Coach Luthey, LCHS Athletics

LCF Youth Alliance Campaign!

LCF Youth Alliance community-wide campaign for "Making Good Choices" runs from April 1st through mid June.

This campaign is being led by a team of dedicated students & leaders from Flintridge Prep. They have been working tirelessly on projects to promote this campaign, including creating this poster designed by students for students with the tagline "Celebrate Safely".

Additionally, they've assembled online resources that include fentanyl information, ride-sharing tips, and peer pressure advice. You can access the doc here.

The LCF Alliance has scheduled a speaker, Dr. Edwin Peck from Huntington Hospital, to speak on the dangers of fentanyl on May 9th via Zoom.
